How Often Should Systems Be Inspected?

Fire protection systems require routine inspections to stay effective and compliant. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Annual and Semi-Annual Inspections: Regular checks for most systems.
  • Specialty Inspections: Milestone assessments every 3, 5, 6, 10, 20, or 50 years.

These intervals aren’t just recommendations—they’re mandated by codes and standards across the province. For detailed information, see our “Building Owner Responsibilities” guide.

Your Fire Protection Journey: What to Expect

  • Meet with clients and/or property management (in person or by phone) to discuss the specific needs of the property and its systems.
  • Schedule a no-cost consultation or site visit to gain a comprehensive understanding of the existing systems and components.
  • Sit down with our experts to define your requirements and objectives.
  • Conduct a thorough evaluation of all systems and components on-site.
  • Identify specific inspection schedules, assess the system’s age, and determine the required services.
  • Note that inspections are tailored to timelines, including semi-annual or annual intervals, as well as specialty inspections (e.g., 3-year, 5-year, 6-year, 10-year, 20-year, and 50-year intervals). These complement regular inspections to maintain compliance and system integrity.
  • We provide detailed, tailored estimates for the specific services you need.
  • Once approved, you’re added to our database, and inspections are scheduled.
  • We are currently enhancing our service process by formalizing a comprehensive service agreement to ensure an even more streamlined experience.
  • After each inspection or service call, deliver a detailed invoice summarizing the services performed.
  • Include comprehensive inspection reports that document every detail of the work completed.
  • If deficiencies are identified, provide a clear breakdown of issues along with a cost estimate for repairs to ensure systems remain fully operational and compliant.

The High Stakes of Non-Compliance

When fire protection systems aren’t maintained:

  • Systems Fail: Non-compliant systems may malfunction during an emergency.
  • Insurance May Deny Claims: Damage from fire could go uncovered if inspections were missed.
  • Lives Are at Risk: A neglected system can lead to preventable injuries or fatalities.

Don’t take chances. Stay compliant, stay protected.
